SWAMP FEST 2018 MUSIC LINEUP:

Beverly Glenn-Copeland with Indigo Rising:

Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Beverly Glenn-Copeland is already known amongst collectors and music heads for two sought-after albums of folky jazz in the key of Joni. But it was the album Keyboard Fantasies, originally self-released on cassette in 1986 that really caught our attention. The album, entirely recorded on DX-7 and TR-707, lies somewhere between digital new-age and (accidentally) early Detroit techno experiments. The inimitable style of BGC here is both peaceful and meditative while simultaneously rhythmic and bass heavy. The album was recorded in the northern Canadian town of Huntsville where BGC was living at the time and is a beautiful fusion of personal vision, technology and place.  It is not surprising that Red Bull Music Academy, Sappy Fest, Suoni Per Il Popolo, Kazoo Fest invited him to perform.

Special Costello:

Musical moniker of Halifax's Jeremy Costello. Featuring illustrious contributions by Nick Dourado and Dave Burns, occasionally others also. The music of Special Costello serves as a panacea comprised of synthesizer, drum machine, saxophone, and vox humana. The healing swirl of moving energies will service any unspoken, unknown longing to leave you feeling, well, Special.

Wares:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Wares is the name for the noisy, driving, power pop sounds made by Edmonton songwriter Cassia Hardy. Hot on the heels of an eponymous full length debut, 2018 sees Cassia joined by a three piece backing band for a cross Canada tour this summer. Expect new sights, new songs, ringing ears.

Spationauts:
Bandcamp

Picture
Spationauts began a recording project by Christopher Sleightholm (Snake River) and Carl Johnson (Library Voices) for their more esoteric/doom-pop songs. They are now joined by members from Homo Monstrous and These Estates.

LOA:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Emerging from the “Queen City”- Regina, Saskatchewan, LOA is the feminine force behind the New-Wave R&B sound rising out from the prairies. Likened to that of other alternative R&B artists such as Banks, Grimes, and Halsey, LOA brings her own coalescence of dark mysticism to the genre, making her better known to many as the "3 Witch”.

The Radiation Flowers:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Guitar rock for northern lights and dark side mantras muttered in the drowsy light, these folks know how to get you off with minimal chords played to maximal effect. Like they say, "it's a sci-fi-hurricane kinda groove".

The Shiverettes:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Hailing from Calgary/Treaty 7 territory, The Shiverettes come equipped with gnarly riffs, snotty attitude and brash honesty. The four-piece push their Feminist Agenda™ with a heavy dose of sass, side eye and shade. Gathering comparisons to The Stooges, Seven Year Bitch and MC5, The Shiverettes are here for a good time and, Goddess willing, a long time.

The Catamounts:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Reverb-saturated fast paced vintage instrumental wild action! The Catamounts stalk inspiration from across time and around the world. With boundless hunger they devour 60's classics from America, East Asia, The Mediterranean, and their hometown, Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Catamounts' resonant timbres snarl and echo across the frozen parries.

Waitress:
Bandcamp /  Facebook

Picture
Waitress meld hot-wired pop instincts to expansive droning landscapes and create deep shimmer that won't quit, carving out their own niche and sounding gloriously out of step.

Hermitess:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Hermitess is the solo project of songwriter and harpist Jennifer Crighton, who comes by way of various other musical incarnations, including The Consonant C and Devonian Gardens. Stripping back the performance to a harp and a circle of women's voices, the Hermitess is an inquisitive, contrary, wounded, wise and ever dreaming incantation.

Ancient Pig:
Bandcamp /  Facebook

Picture

Everyone's favourite worst band ever.

Beach Body:
Bandcamp / Facebook

Picture
Beach Body are an “undeniably chill” (Greyowl Point, Toronto) post death surf quartet from Regina, Saskatchewan, composed of founding members Rory Copithorn, Ian Patterson, and Gaelan Malloy along with newcomers Jon Neher and Jesse Bryksa.  The band was formed late in the summer of 2017 in a sweaty garage in the south end of the city, prompting the initial name “The Southside Coyote Boys” which was thought to be “a stupid name for a band”.

The bands sophomore release, Curb Ciggiez EP, is due out July 13, 2018.

Juniper Bush:
Facebook

Picture
Juniper Bush is the musical child of Lizzy Burt, Adrian Schroeder, Danny Hacking and Kyle Loewen. An experiment of likenesses that merge together in a base of indie psych rock. A road block to the beauty of what could have been. A forgiving but undeniably penetrative existence. Members of Juniper Bush are also from Winnipeg based bands such as Basic Nature (Dub Ditch Picnic/Sundowning Sound Recordings; opened for Swervedriver and The Dandy Warhols; invited to showcase at CMW 2016), Black Cloud (Transistor 66), Holy Void (Transistor 66; "For Everything Else" tape #1 on CKUW charts for 7 weeks) and Surprise Party (Transistor 66, r.i.p.)

The Definitelays:
Bandcamp

Picture
The Definitelays are a chilled out trio playing sun-drenched garage punk. These three pals swear by the power of chorus pedals, capos, Point Break, and highkicks.

Ygretz:
Bandcamp

Picture
ygretz is a solo music project by Greta Peart. For the past year, she’s been experimenting with producing music and is now playing shows. Live, she re-creates her lo-fi pop grooves with an electric guitar and sampler.

The Sex Geckos:

Picture
The Sex Geckos play manic, trippy, & wild tunes. They're the backhanded compliment that you've always wanted, the snotty punk neighbour that you secretly thought was badass, and the party that you would call the cops on, but they're playing The Stooges, Pixies and early King Gizz, so you let it slide. The Sex Geckos are aliens... but they don't come in peace..!

The Won'ts:

Picture

SKNNYKRS:
Mixcloud

Picture
More eager than angry, more surf than klezmer. More Alan Jackson than Bo Jackson. Newer than Velcro and older than this sentence. Ranging in ages from 7 to 67 The Won’ts are good vibes and hot bods. The greatest part of The Won’ts is that they’re all best friends!
SKNNYKRS has always kept the essence of Hip-Hop in the foreground.  Be it as a Producer, Emcee, Turntablist or Photographer he has and will always strive to keep the culture alive and progressive.   As a member of The Stoop Collective, he is inspired and surrounded by talented individuals who continue to push each other to present the best material possible.  In a culture that is misunderstood and constantly flooded with questionable standards, he remains to deliver the good word and keep with tradition.

DJ Sid:

Swamp Daddy:

Sid Talukdar has been playing music for people to dance to since 2011. Having lived around the world, but born and bred in Regina, he delivers an eclectic mix of new wave and disco. Sid has been busy traveling and collecting records for the past few years. His set at this years Swamp Fest will showcase the best of these finds and promises to be a proper send off as he relocates to Berlin in the Fall.
