SWAMP FEST 2018 MUSIC LINEUP:
Beverly Glenn-Copeland is already known amongst collectors and music heads for two sought-after albums of folky jazz in the key of Joni. But it was the album Keyboard Fantasies, originally self-released on cassette in 1986 that really caught our attention. The album, entirely recorded on DX-7 and TR-707, lies somewhere between digital new-age and (accidentally) early Detroit techno experiments. The inimitable style of BGC here is both peaceful and meditative while simultaneously rhythmic and bass heavy. The album was recorded in the northern Canadian town of Huntsville where BGC was living at the time and is a beautiful fusion of personal vision, technology and place. It is not surprising that Red Bull Music Academy, Sappy Fest, Suoni Per Il Popolo, Kazoo Fest invited him to perform.
Musical moniker of Jeremy Costello. Featuring illustrious contributions by Nick Dourado and Dave Burns, occasionally others also.
Wares is the name for the noisy, driving, power pop sounds made by Edmonton songwriter Cassia Hardy. Hot on the heels of an eponymous full length debut, 2018 sees Cassia joined by a three piece backing band for a cross Canada tour this summer. Expect new sights, new songs, ringing ears.
Hermitess is the solo project of songwriter and harpist Jennifer Crighton, who comes by way of various other musical incarnations, including The Consonant C and Devonian Gardens. Stripping back the performance to a harp and a circle of women's voices, the Hermitess is an inquisitive, contrary, wounded, wise and ever dreaming incantation.
Everyone's favourite worst band ever.
Beach Body are an “undeniably chill” (Greyowl Point, Toronto) post death surf quartet from Regina, Saskatchewan, composed of founding members Rory Copithorn, Ian Patterson, and Gaelan Malloy along with newcomers Jon Neher and Jesse Bryksa. The band was formed late in the summer of 2017 in a sweaty garage in the south end of the city, prompting the initial name “The Southside Coyote Boys” which was thought to be “a stupid name for a band”.
Rising from the ashes of The Southside Coyote Boys, Beach Body quietly released their debut EP, Plain Life, in November 2017 and unexpectedly found listeners from across the world through various features on indie music blogs and playlists such as BIRP! (Paris, Tx), Ride the Tempo (Toronto), Cereal and Sounds (New York), Obscure Sound (New York), Cups n Cakes (Edmonton), and Gothenburg Sessions (Gothenburg, Sweden). The Plain Life EP was considered “a statement of perfection in [it’s] genre” (Cups n Cakes Podcast, Edmonton).
The bands sophomore release, Curb Ciggiez EP, is due out July 13, 2018.
